Course Overview
This course provides advanced technical information about the VitalQIP system. It focuses on an integration of Microsoft’s active directory in a VitalQIP environment. The course provides a basic understanding about the physical and logical structure of active directory. The interactions between Windows and DNS/DHCP will be discussed in detail. The configuration of VitalQIP to support active directory and Windows 200x in an optimised way will be explained and demonstrated in a case study.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

• understand the principle of the concept of an active directory
• have a basic idea on how active directory works
• know about the architecture the active directory is based on
• understand how dynamic DNS works
• know how Windows in general and specially in connection with active directory uses DNS
• know about the possibilities to handle dynamic DNS updates in a Windows200x environment
• know about the key topics to think of for a DNS design in a Windows200x environment
• know about the user and vendor class DHCP options used by Windows200x clients
• understand the components of the VitalQIP system and how they interact
• configure the different module interaction policies
• know about the way VitalQIP handles dynamic DNS updates coming from DHCP or external processes
• configure the external dynamic update processes in VitalQIP using the polling or the continuous method

VitalQIP administrators responsible for DNS and DHCP support and services in a Windows200x environment and / or planning the deployment of an active directory.

Prerequisites
Students should have knowledge of:

• VitalQIP administrator training course or similar VitalQIP product knowledge
• working knowledge with the VitalQIP product
• knowledge about the DHCP service
• knowledge about the DNS service
